Get Ready for Sunday: When Jesus Removes the Stone

I hope you’re having a great week. A quick couple of reminders as we head toward the weekend: Forward pledges begin this month, so if you haven’t already, this is a great time to set up automated giving on the NBC app. Renovations are also underway at the Caring Center as we prepare that space for expanded ministry, and don’t forget that daylight saving time begins this weekend, so be sure to set your clocks forward Saturday night.

Moments like this remind us that God is always moving His work forward among us. But as much as we celebrate what God is doing around us, the deeper question is always what He is doing within us. That’s why the encounter we’ll look at this Sunday is so powerful.

This week in John 11, as part of our SEEN series, we watch Jesus walk into a moment of grief and apparent finality. Lazarus has been dead four days. The stone is sealed. Hope seems gone. But Jesus steps into the scene and declares something staggering: “I am the resurrection and the life.”  This passage reminds us that Jesus doesn’t just promise resurrection someday. He brings resurrection power into our lives right now. What looks like delay, loss, or final defeat is often the place where God intends to reveal His glory most clearly. When Jesus removes the stone of doubt, we begin to see His sovereign timing, His transforming power, and His undeniable glory.

Here’s a question to sit with this week...where in your life does it feel like the stone has already been sealed—and what would it look like to trust Jesus with that place again?

Let’s come ready to worship with expectation, trusting the One who still calls life out of places that seem hopeless.
