Get Ready for Sunday: Free to Fight

What a joy it’s been to watch God at work during VBS over the past several days. We saw record attendance, several children place their faith in Jesus, and countless opportunities to share the hope of the gospel with families across our community. Thank you to every volunteer who served, prayed, decorated, taught, greeted, cooked, cleaned, encouraged, and invested in the next generation. VBS simply wouldn’t happen without you.

Today our students and leaders are heading to camp. Please pray for safe travel, meaningful friendships, spiritual growth, and most importantly, for hearts to be drawn closer to Jesus. Some of the most significant spiritual moments in a young person’s life happen during weeks like this.

Watching both VBS and camp reminds me of something we all know is true, following Jesus is about more than making a decision. It’s about living a transformed life. And that’s where many believers quietly struggle. We know we’ve been forgiven. We believe God loves us. But sometimes we wonder why the battle against sin still feels so real. Why do old temptations keep showing up? Why does obedience sometimes feel like a fight?

This Sunday in Romans 6:1-14, we’ll discover that God’s grace was never meant to make us comfortable with sin. Grace doesn’t just pardon us. It changes us. Because we are united with Christ in His death and resurrection, we are no longer powerless. We are free to fight.

So here’s a question worth considering, are you fighting sin as someone trying to earn God’s approval, or as someone who already has it through Christ?

Let’s come ready to worship, to be encouraged, and to remember that the same Savior who forgives our sin also empowers us to overcome it.

Kingdom Investor Focus

How We Persevere Through Trials

At Northbrook, hardship is not a detour from spiritual growth but often one of God’s primary tools for it. He uses trials to deepen our trust, refine our faith, and draw us closer to Himself. Kingdom Investors endure with hope, knowing God is at work even in difficult seasons.
